Homeserver: Umstieg von NSLU2 auf Sheevaplug?

Meine NSLU2 muckt mal wieder ‘rum und kommt nach einem Reboot nicht aus den Puschen (die Zeit für das ausführliche fsck sollte kürzer sein). Schlecht, wenn man gerade nicht davor sitzt. Die Slug hat mir bisher sehr, sehr gute Dienste geleistet, wie man auch an den zahlreichen NSLU-Artikeln in diesem Blog erkennen kann.

Aber trotzdem frage ich mich, ob ich nicht auf ein Sheevaplug umsteigen sollte – natürlich im Zuge einer Neuinstallation der heimischen Serverinfrastruktur. Die technischen Daten hatte ich schon mal im März veröffentlicht, das ist schon ein deutlicher Fortschritt im Vergleich mit der aktuellen Hardware von Cisco.

In der Zwischenzeit gibt es sogar eine deutsche Domain zum Thema, wenn auch noch mit relativ wenigen Inhalten.

Martin Michlmayr verspricht für eine der nächsten Versionen des Debian-Installers eine direkte Unterstützung des Sheevaplugs:

It took me a while because of travel and other projects, but I finally released a tar ball containing Debian lenny for the SheevaPlug along with some installation instructions. It should be really easy to install Debian this way, but I'll also make sure that SheevaPlug support will be in the Debian installer for the next release of Debian. Ich bin am Grübeln, momentan kostet der intelligente Stecker knapp 140 Dollar inklusive Versand nach Deutschland. Dazu kommt natürlich noch Zoll. Also in Summe auch über 100 EUR. Naja, erstmal sehen, ob ich die Slug heute abend wiederbeleben kann.

CoolIris 1.11 verfügbar (Maxthon-kompatibel)

Ich hatte schon mal über CoolIris (ehemals PicLens)berichtet, ein Browser-Plugin für Windows und Mac OS, dass Bilder und Filme auf eine besondere Art und Weise anzeigt. Und gerade eben ist auch Maxthon 2.5.2 erschienen – also stellt sich die Frage, wie sieht denn das aktuelle Zusammenspiel der beiden Softwareteile miteinander aus.

Ich hatte in einem älteren Artikel mal eine kurze Anleitung gegeben, wie man die Internet-Explorer-Version von CoolIris zur Zusammenarbeit mit Maxthon überredet: JAlbum, CoolIris und Maxthon

Wer den aktuellen Stand kennenlernen möchte, der möge hier weiterlesen …

Dies Vorgehensweise ist auch immer noch gültig, hier zusammenfassend die einzelnen Schritte.

• Mittels Internet Explorer die kompatible Version direkt von der CoolIris-Homepage installieren.
• Alle Browserinstanzen (IE und Maxthon schließen).
• Im Speicherort der Maxthon-Installation den Plugin-Order suchen, bei mir C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\Username\Anwendungsdaten\Maxthon2\Plugin
• Wenn CoolIris schon installiert war, dann gibt es dort schon einen Ordner PicLens, wenn nicht, einfach einen neuen Ordner mit diesem (oder einem anderen Namen) anlegen
• Wenn noch nichts da ist, in den neu angelegten Ordner den kompletten Inhalt von C:\Programme\PicLensIE in diesen Ordner kopieren
• Alternativ den alten Plugin-Ordner leeren (alles bis auf die plugin.ini-Datei) und dann den kompletten Inhalt von C:\Programme\PicLensIE kopieren
• Als letztes fehlt noch die Steuerdatei (plugin.ini) – falls nicht schon vorhanden. Diese Datei ist eine reine Textdatei, den Inhalt findet ihr im alten Artikel (ziemlich am Ende)

Zum Abschluss Maxthon starten und im Optionsmenü (Extras => Maxthon Einstellungen => Plugins) sicherstellen, dass das neue Plugin wie im Screenshot links aktiviert ist.

Wenn das alles funktioniert, kann man CoolIris ausprobieren. Ein schneller Weg ist der Zugriff auf unsere Hochzeitsgalerie, da diese MediaRSS unterstützt. Wenn das Plugin richtig funktioniert, dann sollte ein kleines Icon in der linken unteren Ecke der Vorschaubilder auftauchen – das ist das Zeichen, dass CoolIris den RSS-Feed gefunden/erkannt hat. Wenn das nicht passiert, bitte erstmal mit dem IE probieren, ob es funktioniert. Wenn es dort geht aber in Maxthon nicht, dann die Anleitung nochmal genau kontrollieren und sicherstellen, dass man die aktuelle Maxthon-Version nutzt.

Was gibt’s neues bei CoolIris?

Wesentlich ist der integrierte Modus bzw. die Unterstützung von Browser-Tabs, CoolIris startet jetzt nicht mehr gleich im Vollbild sondern läuft im Browser! Zudem wird jetzt teilweise Hardwareunterstützung für Nvidia-Grafikkarten zur Darstellung der Effekte benutzt.

Frisch aus dem Labor: Maxthon 2.5.2.7058

Nach vier fünf Beta-Versionen (ich muss die letzte verpasst haben ) ist nun eine offizielle Version von Maxthon 2.5.2 erschienen.

Der Download gelingt am besten über die offizielle Seite:

Die meisten Änderungen sind Bugfixes, ansonsten gibt es ein paar Verbesserungen in Bezug auf Performance und ein paar andere Optimierungen.
